SEPIA SATURDAY ~ Who are the people in these unknown photos? They were in my maternal grandmother’s photo collection

We all have pictures in our collections that we cannot identify.  I have found, over the years, that sometimes the identities are revealed as we gain more knowledge of the family and connect with more cousins.  Those new cousins may have knowledge that we don’t have.

I never throw away old photos for just that reason.

My maternal family on my grandfather’s side (Milne) are from Aberdeen, Scotland.  The fact that one of the photos is from an Aberdeen studio and another from a MILNE Aberdeen studio certainly leads me to believe these may be ancestor photos.  These photos were among those belonging to my grandmother, Florence Bowden who married Joseph A. Milne.  Joseph’s father Andrew Charles Milne was born in Aboyne, Aberdeen, Scotland in 1856 and immigrated to the U.S. through Canada in 1868.

Today I’d like to share some pictures that I haven’t been able to identify……yet.  Perhaps someone out there can shed some light on them?

Who is this lady?  The photo is from Milne studios in Aboyne, Aberdeen, Scotland - my Milne family is from Aberdeen and this photo was from the collection of a Milne descendant

Who is this man? - the photo is from an Aberdeen, Scotland studio - no markings on the back

Another photo found among my Milne group but I don't recognize this lady

There is some speculation that this is a photo of Edna Bowden (my grandmother's only sibling) - but I cannot say for sure

This young lady has some of the same facial features as other Milne or Bowden women in my family - but who is she?

I found this photo today while going through my grandmother's pictures - this lady looks very much like my grandmother, Florence Bowden Milne - but it is not her.  Could this be her sister Edna?

If anyone reading this can help identify these people, I’d love to hear from you.

Happy hunting,
Michigan Girl

PHOTO FRIDAY ~ Lake Orion, Michigan–My grandparents & their friends

I have a collection of photos from my paternal grandmother, Marie Lindsay Gould.  Most have been identified.  However, there are various group photos in which I have been unable to identify some or most of the people.

This particular envelope had the following writing on it.  It was my grandmother’s writing:

“Lake Orion – Gould, Pickard, Janes, Webers, Schuffler families.”

If you can help me identify any of the people I don’t know, I’d love to hear from you.

Back row far left is my grandfather, Harry W. Gould, third from left is Fred Pickard, next to him is my grandmother, Marie Lindsay Gould.  In the front row the little boy second from the left is my father, Harry Norman Gould.  WHO IS EVERYONE ELSE?

PHOTO FRIDAY ~ Can you help me identify this man?

SMITH_Clyde J_photo sent from Sue Dattolo_labeled by her_cropped& enh_edited
UNIDENTIFIED MAN
This is a picture shared with me by a cousin.  She found it amongst photos that her mother, Jane, has.  The only thing written on the back is “Scotland.”  Jane is my 1st cousin once removed, on the Milne side of the family.

I know it’s a bit blurry, but in trying to read the printed words on the bottom I see ___Margie? on the lower left.  On the lower right corner I’m fairly certain it says Aberdeen.  What do you think?
UPDATE - Thanks to comments by readers, I now know that the photographer's name on the lower left is J. Hardie.  I have an address of his business in Aberdeen and the years he was in business.

Note:  I am trying to get my cousin to send me a picture or scan of the back of the photograph.

Since we have lots of family on my maternal side, from Aberdeen, this would make sense.  But, who is this man?

Background on my family from Aberdeen

My great grandfather, Andrew Charles Milne was born in Aboyne, Aberdeen, Scotland on 8 Feb 1856.  He came to the United States via Canada in about 1868, with his sister Mary E. Milne.  Both of them eventually settled in Michigan.  Andrew is in Detroit by 1877 and in 1880 he marries Susan Anne Gillespie.  They have four children, 2 of whom died young.  Of the two that survived, Joseph Albert Milne and Irene Marie Milne, both married and had children.  Joseph is my grandfather.

Andrew died of Consumption at the young age of 36, on 8 Dec 1892.

Here is a picture that I had restored, of Andrew Charles Milne.

I guess my question is, could that photograph of the unidentified man be a member of Andrew’s family?  A father, brother, cousin, in-law?

If you recognize the man in the unidentified photo, please contact me.

MYSTERY MONDAY–UNIDENTIFIED FAMILY PHOTOS

HALL   BROWN  AVERY  BRIGHT  GOODBODY
These photos were all in a small album in the possession of one of my husband’s cousins, a 1st cousin once removed.  She too does genealogy.  We cannot figure out who these ladies & gentlemen are.  The folks who might have known are long since gone from us.  These are most probably family members from the Saratoga Springs, New York area, containing the surnames listed at the top of this post.

See the family group records I have included below.

This album was in the possession of Dorothy Louise Hall who married Thomas Leavenworth Goodbody, Sr.  We found pictures identified (but only a couple) that were Dorothy’s grandmother, Cora E. Brown.

I’m am placing these photos on here exactly as they were scanned.

If you recognize anyone, please contact me.

None of us ever know when a piece of information we provide might lead to a connection with a family member or someone who knows about the family.  That’s just what I’m doing here.  It’s always worth a try.

I wish you luck in identifying your mystery photos.

Happy hunting,

Michigan Girl
