FRIDAY FACES FROM THE PAST - Orphaned Photos - Christy, Straub, McRoberts

Whenever my friends and I are browsing an antique store or flea market I look for old photos.  Seeing boxes of photos sitting unclaimed breaks my heart.  I always try to save a couple of them.  I only purchase the ones that have names on them, as I feel those have the better chance of finding their descendants.

I post these old photos on Dead Fred’s You can find the photos on that site by using the surname search. This site has been around for many years and is, I believe, an underused resource.

Stay tuned for more orphaned photos featured on this blog.

I would like to see these photos reunited with family.  However, I have no connection to the people or the pictures, other than that they are in my possession.  If you happen to take the time and find someone connected to these photos, please have them contact me.  I will happily mail them the originals.

NOTE:  The first 8 comments attached to this post actually belong on another post.  How they got attached to this one, I don't know.

    1. Sandy - thanks for your input. I was contacted a few years ago by someone who said they were a family member. They didn't want the original photo, but just a scanned copy, emailed to them. I never heard anything more. I realize now that I should have done a bit more homework before posting this today, as her photo is attached to a couple of trees on Ancestry. Lesson learned. Before I post the next orphan photos, I'll double check. Thank you for your kind offer and thanks for stopping by.

  3. Dropping by to say hello and thank you for the comment on my blog. I hope relatives of Carrie Burman will find her, it was such a nice picture of her. I would be thrilled to find pictures I didn't know existed of my relatives. And I really like the signature collection you put together. Have a great day! /Linda

  4. Hey Diane - looks like you reconnected this photo to her family in 2011 - it's on an Ancestry tree page for Carrie Evelyn Burman Hodges, with the caption "Courtesy of Diane Hall".

I do this, too, btw... I have so few photos of my ancestors and would be so thrilled if some arrived out of the blue in the mail one day. :)
    Best...

    1. Well, Anita. That's what happens when we all have so much information gathered. I knew someone who said they were family had contacted me and after this was posted I remembered I sent them a scanned copy of the photo. I didn't follow up, prior to posting today. Shame on me :) Lesson learned. Before posting the other orphan photos I have, I'll do a good search on Ancestry and FS. As for ancestor photos, I actually located one on eBay, bid on it and got it. It was a 2nd great grand aunt who died young and I was thrilled to have the picture.
      Thanks for stopping by.
